Marriage equal rights
Australian politicians, please pass the same-sex marriage bill already!🌈 The argument that "the traditional definition of marriage needs to be protected" is ignoring that the "traditional definition" has constantly changed. 🌈 Traditionally, marriage was about political and family alliances. It involved business and financial exchanges and transactions. It was about economic security and even legal ownership of the woman. It was only in the 1970's that rape in marriage became a criminal offence. ✨ Should we have stayed with those "traditional definitions"? 🌈 Today, getting married on a reality show is celebrated with lucrative ads and hefty executive pay cheques and is apparently perfectly legal but you've gotta admit is making a mockery of healthy sacred unions yeh?! 💗 So politicians, please don't pretend you are serious about "protecting the institution of marriage." 🙄 It's only relatively recently that marriage has (ideally) been about love ❤️️ And whether the one you love is opposite sex or same sex, if you love each other, and are both consenting adults, #loveislove ❤️️🌈 Politicians, it's time to worry less about protecting "institutions" and concern yourself more with protecting people. Youth and adults are suiciding and self-harming because they feel they don't belong and are being bullied. ✨ Domestic and family violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women and their children in Australia 💖 Our politicians seem to think, or so it would appear, that a dysfunctional hetero marriage is more acceptable than the most loving same-sex marriage ❤️️🌈 Same sex marriage rights are about human equality rights. Pass the bill already 🌈
